Pros

• A fairly easy read with a lot of common vocabulary and common kanji
• Interesting topic to someone who's into cooking, food prep, gardening, etc.
• Available for free on Aozora Bunko and more modern than many of their titles
• Has a uniquely interesting perspective, because it contrasts old Japanese traditions with Western imports

Cons

• Still a little riddled with older and/or less common vocabulary

This was an unexpectedly enjoyable read.

As someone that has spent time abroad before this made me fondly remember my own struggles with missing food you just can't get in the country you're in. It's weird how important these seemingly small things like a salad are.
