Not sure if the mangaka gave up on this plot or the publishing company told him to wrap it up but the 2nd and last volume of this manga did pretty much lose the entirety of the plot and has become a comedy only play on the characters themselves. The last 4 chapters pretty suddenly wrap everything in a bow, with last one being an "extra". Very unfortunate since the 1st volume was good and the plot direction looked pretty solid...
