I have mostly positive, but some mixed feelings on this volume. As the cover suggests, the main plot is focused around a sports event, which is admittedly not my cup of tea. There were a few sections that really dragged for me, and I skimmed those. I was also disappointed that Nozomu Seki has such a minimal role in the story... Like he's the only other male character!. Similarly, Maki's job is barely mentioned, and it would have been nice to have a scene of him there, now that he has some experience.
The author uses the new school year as an opportunity to bring in some strong supporting characters, and a very intense antagonist. There are return appearances from some side characters (though some of those sections really dragged for me). There's a good amount of character growth from the main trio, especially since they're now in separate classes. Watching Umi become a bit more secure is especially nice, as is seeing the main trio support each other. Also seeing Maki and Umi dream about/plan a trip for themselves is really nice. Putting everyone in separate classes was an excellent idea, and the author utilized it well.
There's a few moments where we get other character's perspectives, which was mostly nice to see. One of the most enjoyable ones was the second epilogue, which is again from Yuu's perspective. Yuu realizes that she's started to develop feelings for Maki. I'm actually interested to see where the author takes that in the next volume. I'm sure this won't happen, but I'd love seeing them as a happy polyamouros triad. Anyway, I hope the next volume gives more moments from Yuu's and Umi's perspectives.
Overall there are a good amount of ハイテンション events, and I really enjoyed that. I'm looking forward to vol 5 when it's out!
