(4.29/5)Really enjoyable and rewarding read but it does get challenging
I've been having a great time with this series. Read up to volume 12 and I can safely say that the story is extremly captivating. It is quite fast paced (compared to the anime) which I appreciate but if you've watched the anime before the art strikes me as a bit more cartoon-ish in the sense that a lot more comedic drawings are used than from what I remember in the anime.
That being said the difficulty is all over the place. I've had volume that I devoured in no time and then sections where so many old words / kanji were used that I struggled to stay motivated. Good thing again is that it is rather fast with each chapter so you move on to different ones immediately.
The language is not as useful naturally as slice of life reads but due to it being so entertaining I still strongly recommend giving it a go.

One of the easiest shōnen manga you can find
You probably know this one already. Entertainement-wise, it’s an extremely classical shōnen manga, but overall pretty well written with good pacing.
Language learning wise, I would say that this is the easiest shōnen you could find. The main complexity comes from the fact that the story is set in ancient Japan, with some characters using rare or outdated words and formal grammar. Vocabulary remains the most difficult aspect of it; if you don’t mind looking up words, you will find the construction of the sentences easy to understand most of the time. There’s a bit of slang too, but only using a limited number of expressions and constructions.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in reading a shōnen. Don’t wait too long, it’s easier than you might think and will teach you a lot.
