聲の形 is originally a manga. There is also an anime adaptation by kyoto animation that I would highly recommend.
Interestingly, this junior-bunko novelization seems to be entirely independend from the light-novel version that also exists and by a different author.
This was the first japanese novel I ever completed. The first I tried was 魔女の宅急便. But I gave up on that because I found it too hard. Looking back, the reason I gave up on 魔女の宅急便 but was able to read 聲の形 was probably becaue I bought 魔女の宅急便 as a physical book, but 聲の形 as an ebook which made lookup easier, because 聲の形 has full furigana and possibly because I studied more Japanese in between.
The book actually has some slang that isn't that easy to understand. I think there are better first novels and I wish learnnatively would have existed back than for me to find those.
The reason I chose 聲の形 was that I wanted to know the contet that was cut in the anime adaptation , but I didn't want to reread the manga (which I had read long before and couldn't remeber anymore). Technically, I can't know this, but this seems to be a complete adaptation from the manga. It certainly contains more of the original story than the anime does.
