No old kana and limited use of old kanji that I noticed. A sad but interesting recounting of a teacher's experience with a mentally handicapped boy. I'm not sure when this was published, but the author only lived to 1908 so this is quite an old piece of writing and yet still very accessible.
I suspect but am not sure that it is a recounting of his own lived experiences.
