While I think I'm able to acknowledge the merits of this book and recognize its quality writing, I personally didn't find it as enjoyable as I had hoped. The plot development and narration style struck me as somewhat slow-paced, requiring me to push myself to finish it. There's a considerable amount of slang related to high school life that I wasn't familiar with initially, although this became less of an issue as the story progressed. However, to fully appreciate the more gradually unfolding and intricately constructed plot, I believe readers would benefit from a higher level of proficiency than the difficulty of the prose initially suggests.
(Worth noting the above might really just be due to personal taste rather than inherent flaws in the book itself. I still recommend giving it a chance, as others may find it more engaging and rewarding!)
