(4.14/5)ババンババンバンバンパイア (what a title) is a comedy focused around 森蘭丸 (apparently based off of the real historical figure), a vampire who believes that the tastiest meals are pure-hearted 18-year-old virgin boys. To that end, he's found his next target: 理仁, the 15-year-old son of an onsen that 蘭丸 works in. 理仁, however, as fresh young high school student, is in imminent danger of losing his virginity (or so 蘭丸 fears) to a nice young girl he bumps into on the way to school one day, so 蘭丸 vows to protect 理仁 until he turns 18 and 蘭丸 can finally collect.
Despite the premise sounding a bit suspect, I personally felt that things weren't depicted in a creepy/grooming way; 蘭丸's clearly head over heels for 理仁 and is just too jaded to notice it. 蘭丸 is, in scientific terms, a complete goober when it comes to 理仁, and a lot of the comedy comes from the juxtaposition of this compared to 蘭丸's more typical serious "vampire" moments.
There's full furigana, and the digital version was high-resolution enough to be easy to read. There's some onsen-specific technical vocabulary tossed around occasionally, but it wouldn't get in the way of your enjoyment of the story if you didn't understand it. You will be reading the word 童貞 quite a bit. Grammar was generally nothing special except for the times when 蘭丸 slipped into older ways of speaking (having been around for about 450 years), but these moments are brief.
Funny story and characters
In terms of learning I mostly learned some random words and historical references.
In terms of plot I am having a bunch of fun, it's funny and the characters are fun, truly recommend it (if it's your cup of tea humor-wise lol if you're not sure just check the youtube trailer for the second volume)

DNFing the series...
Maybe it gets toned down in later volumes, but on at least 3 occasions the very much adult Vampire dude is sexually aroused by the 15 year old who he is basically grooming to be his next main meal. Essentially, Vampire dude is obsessed with him and tries everything to keep him as pure (aka a virgin) as possible but he is very clumsy. Which is where the "humor" comes from.
His sexual arousal, his obsession and even a guy flashing a teen girl at night are played for laughs and it's just not my cup of tea.
The art is fantastic, though.
