(4.22/5)This book is a collection of short biographies (~10-15 pages long, big font) which you would expect to find in a second grade classroom. They're cute stories, mostly about overcoming initial struggles to great success and you might learn a few things. The familiarity of the stories does aid in reading, as you generally know what the biographies are about - Christopher Columbus, Edison, Da Vinci, Tezuka (a pioneer in manga & anime).
Everything has furigana and the language isn't too strange, although the overabundance of kana does sometimes create confusion. The WaniKani vocabulary sheet and discussion threads are a massive help though!
Overall, this is a very good beginner book and could be a great first book too. I personally tend more towards fictional narratives, but these biographies kept me relatively entertained.

Great for a first book since it uses masu form, straight forward sentences and sectioned into short chapters. Only problem is that there’s not much kanji in lower grades making it hard to recognise words sometimes. The book was interesting to read since I didn’t know some of the people and found out new facts about the ones I knew
