This was a very easy read, mostly common vocabulary with a smattering of shrine/mythology related words. I listened along with the audiobook, which was fine for the main character's voice, but sounded pretty much the same for all of the male voices. It was first time reading extensively, without looking anything up, and wasn't hard to follow.
The story wasn't really what I was looking for, unfortunately. The main character didn't really have a goal or a purpose, so the story felt a bit aimless

Gotta give props for at least not being a high school romance and being almost pure fantasy instead of a high school story with some fantasy elements.
That said, it is a fairly simple underwhelming story. There is zero character development for any of the other characters so it really feels like they are setting up the series with a flat volume 1. All setup for the sequel where we hope something will happen there. There is barely any dialogue from the other characters except that they are teac
