That was fun!
[Content & Thoughts]
This is one of Sumino-Sensei's books. Grabbing it in the bookstore I liked the book cover, but at the same time wondered about the writing style of かくしごと. Why do we have those brackets in there?!
With this in mind I started reading the novel. We have a small prologue, then five chapters, then a small epilogue. We have five high schoolers and while reading we come accross different kinds of かくしごと.
It was so much fun working on that mystery. Why do we have those brackets? Why does it spell differently in the chapter names? Is it by accident, that かくしごと is a word with five hiragana characters? Was it by design? My first assumption did not proove correct. I though that the special characters where the brackets have been a place holder would point to one single character of that high school group. Hm. Now thinking about this, maybe this is still true, but the main point here was that they all matched with the PoV character's special ability! :-D
Nevertheless, because of those little mystery around, reading the book was quite fun. With over 300 pages it is a bit longer than usual novels I read, but it was readable relatively fast.
Each chapter focuses on a special time in their high school live and narrates the story from a different perspective. We get to enjoy the 悩みs of youngsters and there are also thoughts that adults might have. The characters were relatable.
[Japanese]
PoV changes in each chapter and it was fun to figure out whose perspective we got.
We have a lot of colloquial speech. As I was not used to it before reading this novel, I had a little bit of hard time in the beginning, but then it read fairly easy.
Vocabulary is used in daily life.
