This book falls squarely into the young person gets sick and/or is dying to make a romance dramatic trope. Which is a shame, because it had a really interesting first half with a lot of light sci-fi elements and a mystery around that.
This book has an epilogue, and then 2 chapters that follow it. I was angry after the epilogue, annoyed after the following chapter, and then kinda rolled my eyes at the last chapter that decided to undo a lot of what it had committed itself to do in the previous two chapters. It didn't stick the landing, but it also didn't shatter its tibia when it fell. For a full furigana novel at its level it was a perfectly serviceable read. From a story perspective, the last third really failed to finish what the first two thirds set up.
As language learning goes, there's some discussion of physics principles that were made a lot easier for me to read since I knew what they were describing. None of it is really plot relevant, but it was the most difficult part of the story. Most of the rest is what you would expect in a teen romance/LN.
