(5/5)This is a lore heavy steam-punk fantasy series with court politics, an arranged marriage that both parties seemingly don't want, and 'family spirits' (basically gods) ruling over their respective domains.
I love the detail of the world and the flesh given to the characters and found it a delightful read. It was definitely too hard for me when I started it - I had to reference the English translation to get through (which, doing so, I realized that it was a bit of a sloppy translation when I asked native speakers about a few things...). That said, the effort was worth it.
The difficulty for me with this text is that it is written in a more flowery style, sometimes drifting from reality, something swinging between thoughts and physical descriptions. This sort of writing is no problem in our native languages but is challenging to navigate when learning a new one.
There is also a very wide range of vocabulary that is not at all "day to day" French taking place in a fantasy world seemingly reflecting what I'd assume to be 1700s/1800s France.
