Grading books is still broken so apologies for no ratings. I entered this book as around 34 because it has a decent amount of legal/political talk towards the end of the book. Leading up to that however it's all mostly common vocab, and written in the first person which makes it fairly easy. I'm not totally sure where it will wind up.
It feels a bit odd to rate someone's autobiography, especially given the focus on their being molested by an authority figure as a teenager. Don't really pay too much attention to my star rating.
The book delves quite a bit into what it was like for the author to grow up in Japan feeling and being treated like a foreigner, and constantly striving for a sense of belonging and recognition from his peers.
His accounts of the idol industry struck me as being abusive even before the sexual abuse took place, and I wished the book went more into that.
There are quite a few names thrown around, and if you're like me and know fairly little about Japanese celebrities you will likewise be lost and left wondering at the meaning and weight behind certain name drops. It didn't matter too much to me, but I can see it bothering some people.
The audiobook is a plain narration, no special effects. They do have a good voice actor doing it though, and the audio mixing had no flaws that I noticed.
I recommend this book to people interested in this celebrity, interested in the Johnny's scandal, or even people wanting to know what it was like for someone of Brazilian heritage to grow up in Japan in the late 90s/early 2000s.
