Read the first few pages before you buy...
This book was on the top of a bunch of "best SF of the 2000s" style lists, and it has some interesting and clever ideas, but I didn't personally get on with it. One of the main reasons for that is that it has passages that describe in sometimes quite graphic detail violent killings or their aftermaths. There's one of these in essentially the first few pages of the book, so my suggestion is to read a preview first to see whether that kind of scene is something you're OK with reading. It's not rel
