The main chunk of language is quite simple, typical school comedy/romance/slice-of-life level, aside from the dialect stuff and cultural explanations and terms. It was a little hard for me to grade for that reason.
All the dialect is translated, but one still needs to feel confident enough to recognize it as a dialect and just continue reading (because the translation is within the plot, not as footnotes). I can imagine it could be confusing for the beginners.
And you do get cultural info dumps from time to time.
As for the plot, the protagonist is a transfer student moving to Okinawa, and basically everything that happens, happens for him to get a new info tidbit about his new home. Granted, I’m not really the best person to appraise slice-of-life, because it’s not really my favorite genre, so I may be a little too harsh here.
I really wanted to read something set on Okinawa before travelling there, so I’ll probably read the rest of volumes anyway despite complaining, but I really would prefer some plot aside from excuses for cultural lessons. I want these lessons, but I also want some additional motivation to keep going.
Additional notes: author is not from Okinawa, but, just as the protagonist, also an outsider who moved there some time ago. Personally I would prefer Okinawan author. That being said, the series seems to be well received there, according to Japanese Wikipedia, it reportedly sold more copies than popular manga such as One Piece and Attack on Titan in one of Naha bookstores.
