(3.90/5)The series hits an easy groove
In terms of both the actual book and my reading ability, this was probably my favorite of the series so far. I think the writer's skill at plotting has smoothed out at this point, we have less diversions and the parts that do show thing from other perspectives largely show information we wouldn't know rather than just recapping things. The arc about Yuna opening a bakery is very satisfying from both a story and character perspective, and I loved the political intrigues in the fishing town which capped off with one of the best fight scenes yet.
As far as language learning value, this one felt the easiest of the series, possibly because I'm getting used to the series and possibly because there were fewer new concepts introduced in this one, but either way this was the smoothest reading experience I've had in Japanese so far and that has me really excited to continue on to volume 5.

Getting pretty boring
These books are pretty good for people around N3 and generally getting used to reading actual books. But the lack of any urgency/anything ever mattering when she deals with fighting monsters sucks. It didn't exist in the previous books either but like... this one is extreme. This book also really lacked in the whole "cute girls doing cute things" department. So, from a book standpoint I cannot recommend this to anyone. Pretty dull but I didn't hate it. I think most people would REALLY dislike this book.
But language learning-wise it's amazing of course. Lots of different ways of speaking, chances to learn all sorts of good vocabulary for food/snow stuff. If you don't have 盗賊/討伐 down at this point I would be shocked.
