This is the first one-shot manga I've ever read, meaning that the entire story is just this one volume. It has nearly zero exposition at the beginning, throwing you right into the main plot. It was entertaining - I laughed some, I cringed some, I was glued to the pages when there were some high-ish stakes toward the end, and overall I enjoyed it. There is a good mix of polite and casual forms in the language. Do not skip the omake at the end!
Regarding it seeming like a BL: It is not stated to be BL, but it ticks all the boxes of usual genre tropes and form, and then the end includes (spoiler) them reuniting as adults and going to Tokyo together, so..... Honestly, I'd consider it an "implied" BL, if anything.
