This book makes a lot of implicit statements just to turn things around and play with the reader's subconscious expectations. I thought it was very clever and made me think about why I made certain assumptions.
Unfortunately, although I really liked this aspect, the book moves a bit slowly and I often lost interest. I also often felt stumped by my lack of knowledge about Japanese culture, for example 漫才 plays a big part and I know nothing about it.
