This story is pretty short and good for learners. It contains a decent amount of furigana (mostly only on first appearance of a kanji), which is especially helpful for the various kinds of animals and some old-fashioned writings of words. I would say there are a lot of words that a beginner has to look up, but you should not be discouraged by that. Overall it is a great read.

This was a cute short story about some animals finding an 赤い蝋燭. It's pretty good practice for learning the kanji/pronunciation of some common animal species; furigana is given once, and each animal's kanji is a single kanji, so it ends up being good memory practice when encountering them for the first time.

Short and amusing story. This is probably not for absolute beginners as even simple words do not have furigana, but it with modern lookups this will be simple for most readers. It does have some odd kanji that will probably need a look up. 猪 being read as しし is listed as archaic, but it is understandable. 鼬 is one that will be a look up for most. Don't be intimidated however, it not a bad read and is very short.

Cute children's story with a full cast of animals. Looks like each kanji got furigana on first appearance, and then none after. Straight forward writing style, nothing I noted as being particularly old fashioned either (Aozora writing is out of copyright).
