(3.94/5)Kon lives in a world that bugs out regularly—every morning may bring a new surprise. But with Kasane, a researcher who studies this phenomena, he knows that each day will at least be interesting!
I have to admit that from this blurb I expected a bit of... well, researching, and maybe a bit of mystery and interesting situations that arise from this setting.
Instead, I got a "bug of the week" slice of life manga with super-low stakes. There is a tiny bit of character progression for one character, but it's not much.
Out of the five chapters:
- Two had really cool bugs.
- Two were interesting.
- One was a fun chapter, but the bug in it was little more than a plot device that the chapter didn't even need.
I was a bit disappointed because I feel like the setting holds more promise than the manga delivered. But in the end, I think it is quite enjoyable when approached as a slice of life manga with an interesting gimmick.
A cute first volume, excited to see where this goes!
This manga consists of five chapters following a "monster-of-the-week" ("bug of the week") format. Basically every chapter, the world glitches out in a different way. Since it's just the first volume, it's hard to know how the rest of this series will go. Will it continue to be a bug-of-the-week sort of thing? Or will an overarching plot be introduced? Both possibilities seem likely. I'll continue the manga as new volumes are released either way.
From a language learning perspective: it's not too hard of a read since the characters don't talk too slangy. Each chapter uses some new vocab since the bugs are different, but once you look up the vocab it's used throughout the chapter. And it was still easy to read imo, especially since the grammar is easy.
I'm excited to see where this series will go!

Wholesome but still subtle and complex
I randomly picked this series after reading やがて君になる, since I enjoyed the author’s writing and drawing style, and the premise seemed interesting.
Story wise, I found it quite interesting and filled with good emotions. The main gimmick, « a bug appears every few days », makes the story unique and quite dynamic. Compared to a standard slice-of-life, I looked forward to each chapter for its specificity. But what makes this series great in my opinion is that it does not only relies on this premise; the character development is well done and each bug is profound and serves a purpose in developing the characters.
Language-learning wise, the vocab is pretty wide, but nothing too complicated or specific. The grammar is sometimes on the harder side, but it doesn’t alter the comprehension so much. It can get quite text-dense, but it adds some depth to the sentences which avoids reading the same words over and over again.
On top of that the art style looks great and the panelling is very well done. The « bugs » affecting the environment allow the author to make the whole book esthetically pleasing.
Would definitely recommend!
