A beautifully drawn graphic novel about 3 French women. Set in 1642, they have been brought from prison in Paris to the island of Tortuga in the Caribbean to become wives to the local men. After an early brush with death they make a promise to always look out for each other.

There was some new vocabulary as expected for the setting (reales de a 8 - pieces of eight!) but there didn’t seem to be anything particularly challenging about their manner of speech. Story was enjoyable. Volume 1 of 3, or
