(4.73/5)This is a picture book; it doesn't use any baby talk and it has full furigana, but it's too short to really be useful as a learning tool.
That said, I think it's still worth reading since it's one of the best picture books written in any language, period. It seems at first to be a playful book about a cat who lives and dies a million times, but the ending is a philosophical gut punch. The greatest reward in learning how to read a foreign language is to read outstanding books like this.
You can listen to a read aloud of this book for free on YouTube. Unfortunately, the text is cut off, but if you have the book, you can follow along https://youtu.be/VRmaIwaEVxI?si=S3LYzL7S3SkmqF7y
