Each of the forty chapters in this book features a small word bank and a short paragraph that uses those words. It is unlikely that a person should need to look up many words that aren't in the word banks.
The important thing about these forty readings is that they do manage to recycle words from earlier units into the later readings. There is some accumulated exposure which could help lock in some of the vocab if you just read it straight through like I did.

Darakwon publishes some of the best material for Korean learning, and it's no different with the Reading Korean with Culture series. This one focuses on developing the learners' ability to read independently, and has 6 books in total (one for each TOPIK level), and it can be used for self-study as well as in a classroom setting. I'll focus my review on the former as that's how I'm personally using them.
The highlight of this first book is by far the ability to guide a complete beginner in Korea


A good basic graded reader
The little compositions within get progressively more difficult as the book goes on, but they are well curated for this level of learner and should remain accessible.
They have a list of vocabulary words as well as comprehension questions at the end of each chapter/composition.
My goal with reading is never to dig deep, forcefully memorize each vocabulary word and answer each question before moving on, since I believe good research shows that time is often better spent simply reading MORE wi
