A Mexican "Grapes of Wrath," based on a family story, from the award-winning author Pam Muñoz Ryan. Good children’s book that explores an interesting period of history

This is a children’s book, but the story is interesting enough to engage an adult reader. This period of history, migrant workers arriving in California during the Great Depression, is interesting to explore, most famously depicted in the book Grapes of Wrath.

Amazing insights into Mexican-American life

I really enjoy per this book. A ton of new vocabulary about daily life, particularly agriculture based vocab. A heart breaking but also heart warming story. If you’re interested in the life of migrants coming to the US from Mexico in the early 20th century, and how difficult their life was, this is the book for you. I was humbled as a language student to think this was written for 9 to 11 year olds. I have a 10 year old daughter and I have her reading this in English now. Highly recommend.
