Although I lost interest in the book halfway through, looking back on it I can't help but find it interesting. I can't point at any one thing and say this was super unique, but all together it combined into a type of fantasy setting that felt unique.
There was a character I felt was super stereotypical and boring, but there was a nice twist about them I didn't see coming, but did make sense.
Language wise I found it mixed, it had a lot of words I never encountered before (because it's fantasy partly) but also it was the sort of thing where most of them can be gleaned from context. I did find myself skimming it at some points and not bothering to lookup everything, and I think I followed it fine despite that. Also some characters have "unique" (archaic? idk..) way of talking, but nothing too hard to parse the general meaning of.
I didn't feel like it was the most helpful as learning material. But it's one of the few fantasy novels in this difficulty range, so it might be an entry into the genre.
This is a series but everything within the story was resolved. I don't think I will continue it as it is. But I wouldn't dissuade anyone from reading this one either.
