(4/5)Content warnings: Some slurs and homophobia
Basic plot: A straight woman who suffers from alcoholism and mental health issues knowingly marries a gay man who was pressured into marriage by family to appear respectable. What follows is the complications of that.
Language learning: The vocab spread here is pretty big and a lot of things are left vague. Grammar wise I didn't notice anything too unusual.
Review: I enjoyed this book a lot - a complete rollercoaster of emotions from chapter to chapter as I really started to feel for each of the characters introduced. I think for such a short book the author really made each person come alive.
There isn't really a plot 'arc' and as such no really solid conclusion, but I felt it was satisfying nonetheless.

Despite it's age a very modern book...
This book is not telling a story. It's 100% character-driven and shows glimpses of the character's lives. Despite being written in the 90s (and some of the language is very much not pc), it has surprisingly modern views on relationships. The female character is dealing with mental illness (and self-medicating with alcohol) and this book does not - like many others - suddenly cure her or even improve her condition. People around her simply take her as she is, which is refreshing.
While I liked the book, it's not something that will remain with me.
