Enjoyable beginner level book about Space
This is a factual book aimed at Japanese children around 8 years old. Each chapter is two pages long and covers a short topic e.g. “what is a solar eclipse”, or “what kind of planet is Jupiter”. Like others in this series there are reading comprehension questions at the bottom of the page (and answers in the back of the book).
The text was enjoyable and I found I learned a few things even though it’s aimed at children. The grammar is fairly straightforward generally N5/N4 and it’s easy to work through the short chapters.
Like many similar books it has one big drawback. Kanji that have not yet been taught in lower grades are not used in the book. Sometimes a sentence will have a cluster of words written all in kana making it more difficult for foreign learners to parse. There are also words written in a mix of kana and kanji, e.g. ぼう遠きょう rather than 望遠鏡.
Overall I would recommend this book. It is colourful, has lots of pictures, and will teach you lots of space vocab!
