This is a classic Japanese story taking place in the 1920s about the development of a small town musician. I enjoyed the unexpected nature of the story and character development
The writing is not hard per se, but there are some sentences that are difficult to parse, musician related vocabulary, and unusual imagery that increase the challenge level. The character behaviour defies expectations - I had many “why is this happening?” moments. That makes it harder for language learning but more interesting as a story.
If you're already comfortable with kana heavy text and prepared to interpret the story a bit more freely than you may be used to, it's an enjoyable adventure.
