Great accessible fantasy LN
From a language learning standpoint, I think this is a very ideal fantasy LN. Story is light and fun, and while there's some fantasy vocab, there's never any info-dumping, overly long theory and descriptions, inner-monologue, etc. There is some magic/special abilities involved, but it's on the lighter side. At the same time, it doesn't feel shallow. The sentences are certainly a lot easier to get through than the author's other series 私の推しは悪役令嬢. The narration switches between characters (mostly the 2 leads), and is always clearly labeled. If you're stuck in that place where all the fantasy is either easy & boring, or interesting & hard - I think this strikes the perfect middle ground. (Though the first few pages had a higher concentration of lookups)
Story is overall pretty good. The two leads, ルチカ and レオニー, and their friend, and rival are all enjoyable characters, and even the "gear" (AI devices that do things like predict combat moves, advise on fighting pairings, life direction, etc) added some interesting moments. The main sources of conflict - prejudices and expectations within the hero school, an abusive teacher, tension between what one ought to be vs what one wants to be, etc, all make for a very interesting story. And the leads relationship is very enjoyably developed. I also thought the combat writing was very enjoyable (tho not to the level of 転生王女と天才令嬢の魔法革命).
I did find the school environment and student body a bit one-dimensional, and hard to buy some of its shortcomings, or that it was as bad at pedagogy as it was. But overall it was pretty minor. I'd definitely really love to see a volume 2, or an anime someday.
