I like the Twelve Kingdoms fantasy series, but it always takes me a while to get going because they use a ton of faux-Chinese terms for everything. This volume was structured as a rotation between three different viewpoint characters, which I’m not a fan of, because usually I get more interested in one of the storylines or find one character less sympathetic than the others, and then I tend to feel “oh no, now I have to plod through this chapter about X so I can get back to the story about Y tha
