Volume 1 synopsis: Sophie is an eighteen-year-old living in a land where magic truly exists — until the Witch of the Waste places a curse on her, transforming her into an old woman. She leaves home and moves into the infamous moving castle of the wizard Howl, taking a job as a cleaning lady. There she befriends Calcifer, a fire demon who lives in the hearth.
