Kagome is an ordinary modern schoolgirl living an ordinary life. Who would have thought the dried-up old well on the site of her family's shrine would be a gateway to Japan's ancient past? Drawn through the gate against her will, Kagome finds herself battling demons for control of what she thought was a worthless trinket but is actually a powerful magical gem, the Shikon Jewel! Together with an unlikely ally, the half demon Inuyasha, Kagome begins a quest to recover the shards of the Shikon Jewe...

Really heavy volume all around. As always the parts with Kikyou are trying - though characters have evolved in various ways since last time. I wish Inuyasha could be better at communicating, but also appreciate that he isn't trying to hide things, even if he's not giving a detailed explanation either. Also nice that their fights/resolutions are getting a bit healthier over time.
Kohaku makes an appearance and hits on yet another thing that really bothers me about this series: given how much the characters care about not slaughtering innocent people or letting them be slaughtered, they should have killed (the already dead) Kohaku a long time ago. Also why didn't Sango ever tell him that what happened that first time wasn't remotely his fault?! Also the entire thing could literally have been solved at any point by pulling the shard out of him and Sesshoumaru resurrecting him with Tenseiga... Tho there's a good chance Sesshoumaru wouldn't bother - except could maybe sway him.
Anyway the stakes have been raised, and thing are only going to get more intense from here on out. Really excited for the next volume!!
