This is a collection of three Sherlock Holmes short stories, adapted for children and translated into Japanese. The stories are:
The book is about 150 pages long, the font is gigantic, and all kanji have furigana, but many words are spelled with hiragana only. The book includes footnotes to explain some obscure terminology, and there are some very good diagrams and illustrations which help immensely to comprehend key plot points — indispensable if you're struggling with the occasionally long and (to a Japanese learner) convoluted expository sentences.
If you're a big Sherlock Holmes fan, or if you enjoy mystery stories in general, you may find this an approachable way to start reading stories in Japanese. Be aware that since the stories are heavily abridged, they won't match the original stories word-for-word, but it can still be helpful to find the original English text (available free online, since it's out of copyright) and check it if you have difficulty understanding some sentences.
