(3.91/5)Not bad, but hard for me to get through
The main girl in the story embodies the trope of the "manic pixie dream girl" more than I expected and maybe that's why I feel like the story felt a little shallow and predictable at times.
I found the story a little hard to get through. Perhaps it was for the story reasons above, but it may also be due to some long sentences, or the standoffish attitude of the protagonist which made it difficult to follow his thoughts. The story was also a little more introspective than I prefer.

Unexpectedly shallow story but great for language learning
- Entertainment: I loved また、同じ夢を見ていた by the same author, so maybe I expected too much, but there wasn't as much to this story as I was hoping. Except for a little twist towards the end, you know exactly how this book will play out already after the first 10 pages or so. I really expected there to be a little more depth, but maybe this book's target audience is younger than I thought. The male lead is also way more antisocial than your typical "Japanese high school loner"-main character and t
Wattpad fanfic vibes with horrible characters
For a book about the importance of human connection the characters are actually insufferable.
The book insists on hammering the fact that Sakura is truly a social butterfly and a natural at human connection but she just steamrolls the mc and actively causes misunderstandings that result in him being more isolated from his peers. She (and the other side characters) are flat and boring with the only characteristics they actually show being obnoxiousness and selfishness. The story is essentially j

...and an autistic MC? (I can't read him as anything but. The MC does not dislike people, he just literally doesn't know how to related/connect to them.)
I don't mind books about people dealing with illness, but if the whole point of the illness is to have an easy plot twist and to force character development, it's annoying. Also: the last third of the book was completely unnecessary, boring blah blah.
I recommend the movie over the book. I found the movie much easier to stomach.

For a book generally aimed at young adults, it strikes a nice balance between its tragic and hopeful elements. The exploration of the two main character's differing worldviews, and how they ultimately come together to form a thesis on living one's life to the fullest, was well done. But it's sad! This is a good read for someone who wants to shed a few tears.
This book felt appropriately ~N2 level. Mostly familiar grammar, without too much difficult vocabulary. The sentences and structure were s
I fucking cried, this hurts
I feel like we all know this kind of sad story and we've seen similar characters before so this could maybe not work for everyone. But something about how this builds up and about the way the characters need each other this story always gets me.
I cried for full on 2 hours during the last 20% of the book. It also lead me to think about life and death, the importance of the moment and the importance of human relationships.
Language wise it was useful, somtimes I found the sentences to be a bit
My version had furigana on all kanji for my personal convenience, but I would also recommend the version without furigana to learners without hesitation.

As a note I listened to the audiobook version, I do not own the text. I also stopped 1/3 of the way through.
For difficulty as a learner this felt slightly towards the upper edge of the pack insofar as mass market young adult everyday-life fiction goes.
I suspect I might had enjoyed this more if I read the text and did not listen to the audio book as I had a similar issue as with よるのばけもの where the main female voice actress's performance drove me absolutely batty. I suppose she was trying to so
loved this book
The story is beautiful. It is a little cliche with the whole "girl appears out of nowhere and changes protagonist", but you aren't thinking about that when reading this. Characters were all meaningful.
Spoiler (do not click as includes major spoilers): The only big issue I had with the story is that Sakura is killed by someone and then nobody seems to really care? I feel like people would react differently if someone they are friends with/love is stabbed to death by someone.</Spoiler
