This was the first non-translated, native book I read and it was a good way to start. It's about a girl who solves three cases - each one with a 'grand reveal' at the end, similar to a Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie. Sure the cases are not the most exciting, but the language is relatively standard and the stories are interesting enough.
There are certainly a few confusing parts, but it feels much easier than a manga - basically every single sentence can be translated by DeepL if you need it

I had just finished reading Big Brother Rental before this and this was a nice step down in difficulty from the last volume of that series. There were stretches that I was able to read without having to lookup a word and the story was interesting enough.
There were only a few sections where I had to turn to DeepL to figure out what was going on. There's a picture on each page and that helps with understanding a ton.
For reference, at the time of reading this I have just finished Genki 2 though
