Junaida (the illustrator) had a whole shelf dedicated to him at Tsutaya Books Daikanyama when I went recently. I bought this book because I knew I had to reread it. (Also, the illustrations can pretty much stand on their own, so it will make a good gift even to someone with no Japanese.)
When I got home and instantly started missing Japan, I reread it and it made me feel better actually. :)
I would not buy this book for language-learning purposes as there are only about 3-5 words per two pages

Beautiful illustrations, short sentences
The illustrations in the book are beautiful, and the sentences are simple, but not necessarily easy to guess the meaning of based on the pictures.
It's written fully in hiragana with spaces between the words.
