(4.08/5)My first Korean book and I’m excited about it
I only just have started reading it and already like it a lot. The author gives a detailed explanation about the content structure in the preface with background information of the history of hangeul and her intention to write this book. I’m very curious to learn about Korea from the stories and feel motivated to go through them step by step. Everything is translated and has a vocabulary list with Roman letters too.
Best Beginner Reader
Everything you need to know to read three to five page short stories is in the book. The stories start very short and they get longer as you master the reusable vocab one story at a time. Because progress is cumulative, exposure to the early vocabulary is pretty locked in by the time you get to the end.
Entertaining fairytales
This book was very enjoyable to read, with a bunch of entertaining fairytales. It started off very easy and got progressively harder (probably to lower intermediate level).
The vocab that you end up learning is not necessarily the most common vocab since the fairytales use some historical/fairy-tale specific vocab, but overall the book was helpful and improved my reading skills significantly.
Cute stories, but with vocabulary lists that make no sense
I liked the stories a lot, especially due to the fact they tell a lot of real korean folktales. it's a way to learn about korean culture and folklore!
the study aspect of the book left a lot to be desired. some easy words would be repeated again and again in the vocab list, while missing harder words. I liked the writing prompts and questions, but it always felt like reading the story was an uphill battle, and I had to keep a translator app opened next to me if I wanted to read any portion of the book.
I don't know if I'd recommend this book (but I didn't hate it)

good book for beginners but strange vocab/exercices
It was fine, but the vocabulary was not very clear so I'd recommend you to keep a dictionary / chatgpt on the side
I was A1-A2 when I read it, and still, it was a bit hard ! If you're also at this level you can read it, but reading slowly and with a lot of lookups will be necessary for decent comprehension (not what I did)
Feel free to skip the exercises if you don't want to spend time yet on output. You can auto-evaluate yourself by reading the english translation aside
3 star for entertainement because it's a bit hard so it requires patience, but entertainment from the content itself is rare as a beginner, so no big deal
