It's good and enjoyable, but you're going to need to settle in for the long haul here because the pace is very, very unhurried. It's hard to judge this from just the first book because this feels either like a prologue, or the start of a lifespan-spanning epic. Note also that each page has two rows of text, so it's quite a bit longer than the page count would suggest. No conquering happens in this book - the protagonist is still a child by the end, and the way it's set up I imagine the next book
