Perfect Continuation of Sayaka's Life

I had been putting off reading this volume for a while since this volume covers Sayaka's life during high school. I was worried there would be too much overlap from the manga story but that ended up being an unfounded fear. It's pretty much a completely different story than the manga. Most of the focus in this volume is during Sayaka's first year in high school before Yuu is even in the picture.

Anyone who reads this should be familiar with the manga already. Spoilers for the manga if you are reading out of order:

Coming into the story and knowing how things end with Sayaka and Touko makes the entire volume depressing in a way since there is such a focus in Sayaka's mind about trying to get closer to Touko. There are so many lines about Sayaka wanting to close their distance, get Touko to show her weak side to her, to always be by her side, etc. Something that would be so romantic reads more as a tragedy knowing they will never be together. A lot of this volume can feel sad when thinking about that but it is also very endearing to see how much Sayaka cares for someone else. Her devotion is admirable. I really liked Sayaka's development in this volume. I feel like it did a good job showcasing a lot of her insecurities. I love the way they portrayed her passion too.

I highly recommend this series. It might even be better than the original story. I have one more volume to read but I am hoping it keeps the same level of quality.
