(4.09/5)Like Seanblue, I found the first two-thirds of this book to be a complete slog. Myne spends most of her time making ink, similar to her time spent in previous books making paper or other objects. This part was 3 stars at best for me since it was rather boring.
However, after the 70% mark, the book improved greatly! There's finally some more information about noble society and magic use, as well as lots of action and drama! The epilogue was also very very interesting and I can't wait to see the implications that the last third of this book will have on the next one.
In summary, most of this book is slow-going, but the ending more than makes up for it. 4 stars.

Felt unbalanced in terms of plot pacing
Like other reviewers, I felt that the first 3/4 of the book being slice of life dragged for me personally, and the final 1/4 pretty exciting in comparison. I chose not to bump up my rating, though, because ultimately if I ever go back to re-read any of it, I'd have to skip significant chunks of the book to get to the parts I'm likely revisiting it for.
(Some more thoughts about the book in general, spoilers): I'm a bit disappointed so far that Myne's move to the temple really hasn't had all that much impact on her daily life or the storyline. I suppose it's partially my own fault for hoping the SOL bits move a bit more to the background, but Ferdinand seems like he's going to be a major character, and we've barely interacted with him yet. The end of the volume does seem like things might start changing, but I've made the mistake of thinking that before. :P
