Awesome and informational CYOA!
This is part of a series of educational choose-your-own-adventure books in which you, the protagonist, have to survive some dangerous situation on your lonesome. This book features our unlucky kid being stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on a sinking boat, and you must make various decisions in order to survive - do you abandon ship? Try to fix it? Should you try to hunt that turtle for food? Is it worth using a flare now? I had a blast going through the choices with a book club; if you're able to I highly recommend this reading method.
In addition to the fun survival scenario, the book is dedicated towards education- there are a ton of asides about the different scenarios, items, peoples, regions, animals, etc. that you encounter through the book, and all seemed to be generally good solid info from what I can tell.
As this is aimed at children, expect full furigana, a larger-than-average text size, and lots of uncommon (for learners) technical vocabulary; stuff like 発煙筒、鱝、 or 銛 that's not typically taught in a textbook. Each individual scenario within the book is also fairly short, usually no longer than a page or two, so it's quite accessible for those who can or want to read only a page or so a day.
