More likely known to English natives as "I'll Always Love You" by Hans Wilhelm, this book is about loving and losing a pet. I was not aware of this one in English until I stumbled across this in Japanese. In either language... it is sad. No kanji and simple grammar, this book is appropriate for beginners.
