Almost Transparent Blue is a brutal tale of lost youth in a Japanese port town close to an American military base. Murakami's image-intensive narrative paints a portrait of a group of friends locked in a destructive cycle of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. I wish I could give half stars here. I have complicated feelings about this book. The subject matter is very dark, and I didn't necessarily enjoy it. But it paints such a vivid picture of the 70s and the reality the main character lives in, I feel like reading it was worth it.
Subject warnings for drugs and (non-consensual) sex. It is very descriptive.

Gruesome but interesting
The content is quite gruesome, I had to take a few pauses especially during certain parts of the narration. It's an interesting read and relatively easy grammar-wise. The vocab is the most challenging side of the novel (well, besides the content), but Yomichan makes it an easy challenge. Overall, I enjoyed it. TW for violence, drugs, non consensual sex. The depiction of the scenes is very well detailed.
