It is an easy read. There are some illustrations to help visualize the complexities in the mystery. Furigana is present for maybe 85% of the kanji, and only absent for very frequently used words.

Intriguing read, easy to follow
This is not too challenging of a read for anyone at a solid JLPT n4 level. Definitely easier than native content in my opinion. I only picked up a dictionary once or twice, and the grammar was easy to understand.
Even if you’re familiar with the original story, I found this read entertaining, definitely a page turner !
