Good beginner book (+ male protagonist)
Prior to this, I had read some of the easier kid books with young girls as their protagonists (夜カフェ and 四つ子ぐらし) and unfortunately I couldn't relate to them at all and found them pretty boring.
I was delighted to discover this book series which is around the same difficulty level as those, but tells the story of a young boy instead and has themes that I could relate to.
