This is a very heavy read, dealing with living in a difficult family situation. The writing style leans into lots of metaphors through detailed descriptions that give you a look into the main character's thoughts and perceptions. It was very depressing to read, and took me many short reading sessions to get all the way through. The author's way of getting you into the character's head through that flow
