This book had every opportunity to be good but just wasn't. The setup is cool - boy goes on the run after accidentally killing a cop. Humanity is split into two subspecies with normal humans being ruled over by the "superior", emotionless type. The protagonist joins up with a semiretired space criminal father-figure and they go and do crime and fight the power.
Sounds cool, but it's boring. Who wants to see the protagonists just win all the time? Once you realise it's a watch-the-heros-succeed
