(4.29/5)Basically perfect as a fantasy light novel, in my opinion. It's lean, without waffle or backstory dumping - but you still learn everything you need to know for it to work. The story is straightforward, but tense, and it doesn't overstay its welcome. There are sequels, but this stands alone as a complete story. I feel like it accomplished exactly what it set out to do.
