(4/5)This is basically a farce with copious amount of murder. The book starts with one simple murder, then the complexity and absurdity of the plot grows exponentially with each chapter, as do the dead bodies. None of this is treated seriously, and no character is particularly likeable or redeemable. The main character is a deluded buffoon, the police spectacularly useless, and none of the rest of the large cast fare any better. The action all takes place in one house (and immediate vicinity), making it feel very much like a theatre play.
All in all, this is good, light fun if you like black humour and absurd situations. There's mystery and surprises throughout, and the end ties it all well. It's written humorously and there are several instances of obvious wordplay. 99% of the book is dialogue, with the result that most pages contain less than half the text they could normally hold. This makes for a fast, easy read.
My one problem with the book was that I never felt invested in any of the characters (it was never the author's intention, after all), so while there were surprises and obstacles popping up all the time, I didn't really care what the outcome would be and felt no particular urge to read on.

A comedy set in a detective novel
A fun, silly read which involves about as many detective/mystery tropes as the author could pack in.
The premise is that our main character, 池沢, has just killed his wife, but from there it spirals, with each chapter bringing a new problem/event/bit of drama.
At some points, I did get a bit tired of the characters, or maybe more accurately caricatures. But overful I found it a lot of fun.
On the language side, it was pretty light, I haven't read much detective/mystery stuff, but it was maybe a good primer, as a lot of things happen, and they were often repeated/inner monologued.
